Blogger Recognition Award

I am afraid, I am going to push off my original post for this week ONE more time. I have started a journey with writing and illustrating a little math story. I do really promise to get back on my “education and activities” track, but I am so excited to be nominated by a truly wonderful, fellow blogger for the Blogger Recognition Award.

The Blogger’s Recognition Award is an award made of nominations by bloggers for other bloggers to encourage and support all of the hard work, time, and efforts that go into this blogging life. It creates a chain of recommendations for bloggers who deserve to be followed.

Award Rules

  • Write a post displaying your award.
  • Thank the blogger who nominated you and provide a link to their blog.
  • Give a brief story of how your blog started.
  • Give two pieces of advice for new bloggers.
  • Nominate 10-15 bloggers who you believe deserve to be recognized.
  • Let the nominees know they have been nominated.

My Thanks

I have Ray to thank from her blog called “The Ray Journey.”

I could write a whole blog on how helpful, amazing, and well put-together Ray’s blog is. Ray is incredible. She is incredibly intelligent, kind, giving, and loving. She is a gifted writer, and her journey is addicting. Her journey consists of a self-imposed challenge to achieve financial freedom and become her own boss in one year’s time. Her countdown is down to seven months, and I am routing for her like some people get behind the characters of their favorite TV show. I not only am rooting for her and believe in her, I also am learning so much about how to improve my own goals and blog as she posts about her journey. If I told about all of the things I have learned, all the notes I have taken, all the things I have applied to my own goal journey in reading her posts each week, I would have a full blog plus some. The time, research, thought, care and work that goes into every post is extraordinary, and sets her blog far apart.

Make sure you go check out Ray’s blog. You will be hooked. Thank you, Ray.

How I Got Started

I am a full-time mom, but like all parents, I had a different life before kids. I was a math teacher in a rural town in Iowa. My husband and I had also started a small business dealing with home renovations. We were go, go, go. Teaching took up most of my time. My husband would joke about seeing me “next summer” when the school year started. I never figured out a balance.

I resigned teaching when I had my first son. I was getting burned out a bit honestly. I could not see how I could achieve a balance being in the classroom and also being a mom and wife, and friend- though I didn’t really have friends except for the teachers I taught with.

When I stopped teaching, I had a disillusionment that I would have so much more time to chase some of my personal goals. A year passed, and I still had all of these goals and ideas floating around in my head at nights causing me to be overwhelmed and a little down. The teaching in me did not stop when I stopped the classroom. It, in fact, got fired up because of my desire to encourage my toddler’s learning. I also hoped I could make some money too when I started blogging.

I am kind of over the money part, which is good because money is flowing like a desert river for me. There is a river of opportunity and connecting that has come my way, however. What blogging has become is an outlet to my ideas, a way for me to continue my teaching journey, a documentation of my life which is otherwise kind of forgetful, and a ways for me to connect. I have really found joy in writing again, creating and meeting goals, and organizing my thoughts. I have also found a community of support and friendship that is amazing.

Two Pieces of Advice

I cannot really say I have advice of my own. I would reiterate what Ray and other successful bloggers encourage about keeping consistent and having a day to push out posts. In doing this and applying Parkinson’s Principle (work expands to fill the amount of time created for creation) my procrastination tendencies have been somewhat at bay. With that said, I am a day late of the Saturday output date with THIS post. Don’t be too hard on yourself when things don’t go perfectly all of the time. Set realistic goals, and push forward.

My other advice is to connect with others. I truly encourage anyone to jump into blogging, but know it takes quite a bit of time and networking to get past the feeling of not talking to yourself. Don’t give up. Do it for yourself and your goals, but to connect is really gratifying.

My Nominations

These are blogs I like to visit weekly. There are some people here who have been taking a break. The nature of this award though I hope encourages! I would love to see those who have stopped to keep going because they are great writers with great ideas and goals. I also have re-elected some, but I think that highly of these blogs.

    1. Oh, Sandy! I am so glad to have met you. I know you were already nominated- probably multiple times like Ray, but I couldn’t not include yours when I sit down to your blog like it should be when you sit down with a friend for coffee- it’s like a little getaway and a breathe of inspiration. I wonder how many people drink a nice warm cup of coffee or a drink to read your blog. I do often!

Haha! It is great that that is a problem for you- getting behind on the awards coming your way! Hahahah! Love you, my friend. I am glad the world of blogging brought us together too.

  2. Oh my goodness Erin!! That’s way too much more than I deserve! Reading these words with a huge smile on my face and a warm feeling in my heart. Thank you for always giving me this mental boost! ❤

I loved reading about what got you started. It’s amazing you decided to take a step towards what makes you happy.
You do share a lot of helpful and useful information through your blog and managed to make it not just an outlet for you but your own source of knowledge for others to navigate through and learn. I’m so happy you took that decision so we can be blogging partners.
Wish you much more success on your journey my friend!
